All Shall Be Well

Juliana of Norwich penned these words of hope, "all shall be well," almost 650 years ago. She survived two rounds of the bubonic plague, and decades of religious and social unrest. She was the first woman to have her words published in English.

As we prepare to celebrate Holy Week and Eastertide, may her words be like a prayer, directing our hearts to the fresh mercy and grace of the Lord. The vibrant lilies, native to Israel, speak of the purity and wonder of God's work in our lives and His message of favor. The butterfly symbolizes the transforming creativity of the Holy Spirit.

It is Finished

Jesus' words "It is finished," proclaim his absolute victory over sin, and over all the work of the enemy of our souls. The power of the enemy is forever broken, and truly the heel of the Son of God has crushed the serpent's head. The serpent's lies, threats, and accusations are rendered powerless because of Jesus. The Lord has exposed the enemy's plan; he seeks only to steal, kill, and destroy. Our Good Shepherd has dealt the fatal blow to him, and all the chaos and confusion dissolves like the mist.

Embraced by the Light

When I think about Easter morning, I imagine the shimmering sunrise light, and the coolness of an early
Spring day. These are all colors of hope, embracing my soul so gently, and reminding me that our Savior is
always alive, always active in our lives.

About the Artist

KATHY SELF believes that art is essential to the wellbeing of people; as we create we show the wonder of what it means to be human, to be made in God’s image. Through her painting Kathy seeks to reveal the inner beauty that is hidden deep within our soul, that secret place where we all carry God’s sacred fingerprint. Visual art is a way for her to bring beauty to those around her. It is an essential form of compassion; we need beauty to nurture the growth of our souls. Sometimes the growth is cathartic as art helps us to define our pain and sorrow, and then directs us toward the hope of healing our souls’ wounds.
