Who We Are

At Grace Commons, we are part of a story much bigger than us.

The story goes back 150 years, to when Boulder was still a village and this church was founded for the pioneers and seekers discovering gold nearby.

The story goes back further still, to a man named Jesus, who also welcomed seekers, and who invited people to discover a way of life deeper and more freeing than any religion had ever taught before.

Yes, we are part of a story bigger than us—but also one near enough to speak to each of us today.

We believe we are recipients of grace—and it is a gift to be shared.

The concept of grace is rooted in the idea of receiving something we didn’t earn and don’t have to pay back.
This is how it is with God’s love. The invitation of Jesus is to receive a love greater than anything we’ve ever done or will do. Receiving and sharing God’s love, found in Jesus Christ, is what has grounded our church since the beginning.

We also see our building’s consistent location in the heart of Boulder as a great gift. Our name, Grace Commons, reflects both our gratitude and our eagerness to be a place for all to  experience God’s gift of grace on common ground.

We seek to orient our lives and our church to be for Boulder, with love.

God shows us that to love is to give. So, at Grace Commons we seek to not just be a church in Boulder, but a church uniquely for Boulder—opening our doors to partner with our city as a hub for mercy, to celebrate the arts, gather for worship, welcome college students, and host community events.

It also means orienting our lives as a gift to our neighbors—sharing meals, opening our homes, and responding to specific needs around us.

With creativity and sacrificial hospitality, our commitment is to be a place and people who are for Boulder, with love.

All are welcome on the journey of spiritual discovery and relational connection.

Boulder is made up of people from all walks of life—but we see a shared spirit of exploration in the fabric of this city and people. Our church exists to be an extension of that.

Faith and life are both a process, and everyone is at a different place. We believe God walks with us, whether we
see him or not, and gives us community so we can walk with others. In this church, you will find people of all
generations and backgrounds engaged in the journey together.

The heart of Grace Commons is to be a welcoming place for people to take next steps in discovering who God is and to build meaningful connections with others along the way. All are welcome on the journey of spiritual discovery and relational connection.

beyond.

God’s love is both personal and expansive, reaching into every corner of our hearts and the world.
Even as Boulder is our heartbeat, God is using Grace Commons to show his love across the globe. We maintain
longtime ministry partnerships around the world—and a steady stream of Boulderites, including CU students each summer, go serve alongside them. Because the grace we stand on knows no bounds.

At Grace Commons, we are grateful to be a part of what God has done—and what we believe he will do next. There’s a place for everyone in this story. We hope you’ll find yours.

Grace Commons leadership

The life of Grace Commons Church is enriched by the many different kinds of service offered by members. This represents an expression of Paul’s view of the church as the body of Christ, with each member contributing to the health of the whole. (I Corinthians 12)

Congregational leadership is an important area of service in the church. Each year, the congregation calls members who have been regular in worship, active in the life of the church, generous in support of our ministry, and faithful in their life and witness to the gospel, to serve as: trustee, elder or deacon.
